Tom Cruise will once again step into the role of NASCAR driver Cole Trickle in a sequel to the 1990 film Days of Thunder. Scheduled for release on June 2, 2028, this announcement was made by Cruise himself at the Daytona International Speedway just before NASCAR’s regular-season finale.

In this new installment, Anne Hathaway joins the cast as a team owner and engineer, adding a fresh dynamic to the storyline. The film will be produced by Cruise along with Jerry Bruckheimer and Tommy Harper, with Jonathan Levine set to direct. The screenplay for the sequel has been crafted by Will Staples.

The original Days of Thunder, known for its exhilarating racing scenes and engaging characters, chronicled the journey of Cole Trickle as he chased glory in the NASCAR circuit. Although it received mixed reviews upon its release, the film has since garnered a devoted fanbase, particularly among NASCAR enthusiasts.

Returning to one of his significant early roles, Cruise’s involvement in the sequel is anticipated to rekindle interest in NASCAR among both longtime fans and a new generation. The project promises to bring the excitement of high-speed racing back to the silver screen, continuing the legacy of the original film.
