The US Air Force has relocated its bomber aircraft from RAF Fairford in England back to US bases amid an ongoing investigation into a potential terror plot. This decision follows the arrest of a dual British-Iranian national in London, linked to alleged threats against the military facility.
B-52 and B-1 bombers, which had been stationed at RAF Fairford since the early phases of the US-Iran conflict, were observed departing the base on Sunday. These bombers played a crucial role in missions targeting Iran, highlighting the strategic importance of their presence in the UK.
The development coincides with heightened tensions between the United States and Iran, as President Donald Trump weighs further military options. The President has stated that the US is at a crossroads, deciding between diplomatic negotiations or escalating military actions against Iran.
The investigation that prompted the withdrawal has seen six individuals detained, although they have since been released on bail, as British authorities explore possible connections to Iran. Tehran, however, has strongly denied any involvement in the alleged plot.
Despite the relocation of bombers from the UK, the United States continues to bolster its military presence in the Middle East. Additional naval forces and aircraft carrier groups have been deployed to the region, underscoring the persistence of regional tensions.
