In a significant diplomatic development, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Khaled bin Mohamed have agreed to enhance bilateral relations, setting aside past differences. The meeting took place during the BRICS Summit in New Delhi, where Pezeshkian characterized their discussions as constructive and forward-looking. This initiative comes amid persistent regional tensions, with both nations seeking closer cooperation on security and maritime navigation.

In an effort to bolster regional stability, Iranian representatives are set to engage in talks with officials from Gulf countries and Iraq in Oman on September 14. These discussions aim to address regional security issues and the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz. However, Bahrain has declared it will not participate in these talks. The agenda is expected to emphasize enhancing mutual understanding and strengthening collective security measures among the involved nations.

President Pezeshkian also made a strong case for intensified economic collaboration among BRICS nations. He advocated for the increased use of national currencies in trade and called for improved financial mechanisms, arguing that reliance on current global financial systems leaves emerging economies vulnerable to external pressures. He urged BRICS members to build economic resilience and cooperation, while firmly opposing unilateral sanctions and attacks on civilian infrastructure.

Highlighting Iran’s strategic advantages, Pezeshkian pointed out the nation’s energy resources and key transit networks, suggesting that Iran could significantly contribute to developing trade and energy corridors linking BRICS economies. This diplomatic push is occurring as tensions around the Strait of Hormuz escalate, underscoring the critical need for regional dialogue and collaboration to ensure security and the steady flow of global energy supplies.
